What it takes to feed a zoo

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) The kitchen staff at John Ball Zoo works hard to prepare meals for nearly 2,000 animals every day. They have diet sheets for each animal to see their nutrition needs and use meats and fresh fruits and vegetables.

The zoo has a walk-in cooler that holds meat, fish, and even frozen rates and mice for the big cats, bears, snakes and eagles.

There is a room called the enrichment closet that contains ingredients mainly used for treats. The animals love to snack on goodies made from oats, peanut butter, honey, molasses, syrup, and peanuts.
