GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) The first students at West Michigan Aviation Academy are graduates, and ready to go out and do great things in the world!
Founders Dick DeVos and Pat Cwayna had a vision for the school and say in four short years, it has exceeded their expectations. They started in a small building and are already twice the size they ever expected to be. They wanted it to be more than a standard classroom. DeVos says there is an expectation that school has to be boring, and he wanted to make it inspirational and tap into students’ capabilities.
The courses at West Michigan Aviation range from aviation to technical, hands-on-training. Students earn the opportunity to fly. The academy’s first student to receive a private pilot’s license was only 17 years old.
