GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) Alexis Hickman hasn’t had a full meal since last April. She’s not starving herself, she’s trying to make living with Crohn’s Disease a little easier. Alexis is part of the School News Network‘s Grads with Grit series.
Alexis was diagnosed when she was 15 and decided to get a feeding tube after learning the disease was putting her at a high risk of cancer and making her infertile. Alexis missed a lot of school since getting sick but graduated recently from Kent City High School. She’s also taking what she’s learned from her illness and hoping to help other children in the future.
Alex attended Grand Valley State University’s early college academy for bio-medical sciences and will study pre-med at GVSU in hopes of being a pediatric surgeon.
