Musical therapy on horseback

maranda-equest center musical therapy

ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOTV) The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding uses horses as therapy for physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged children and adults. It takes a lot of staff and volunteers to run the special program. One of them incorporates music into the treatment with guitar and singing.

Music is processed in a different part of the brain than speech. For many of the kids, it’s key in their understanding and motivation to keep their attention and understanding what’s being asked of them. Parents see marked improvements in their children once they begin the program.

Horses have a natural rhythm. They feel the music and will match their step to the music, which gives the child a more even ride.
