A unique preschool gets kids outside to learn

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOTV) A new teaching program for preschoolers combines the expertise of a wonderful nature center with the skilled teaching of a public school system.

Hamilton Community Schools, part of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, partners with the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland for Little Hawks Discovery Preschool. The nature-based program is open to preschoolers from ages three to five. Little Hawks emphasizes play and learning, outdoor activity, and exploring the natural world. It allows kids to have a hands-on learning experience through a sensory approach; learning through the five senses of taste, touch, hearing, sight, and smell.

Little Hawks incorporates traditional preschool lessons in an outdoor setting. The unique approach helps children learn through exploring and playing, and puts an emphasis on imagination and teamwork. This type of learning sets a foundation of critical thinking skills and creates a road map for learning as the child grows.

Little Haws Discovery Preschool takes place at the Outdoor Discovery Center on 56th Street near 142nd Avenue in Holland.
