GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV)- Oil pulling is the ayurvedic practice for oral health. The practice of oil pulling is typically done by using sesame or coconut oil as a mouthwash. The theory is that the oil “pulls” harmful bacteria, fungus, and other organisms out of the mouth, teeth, gums and throat.
Oil pulling is said to whitening teeth, prevent tooth decay, treat bad breathe, bleeding gums, dryness of throat, cracked lips as well as strengthen teeth, gums and jaw.
Simply place about 1 tablespoon of oil in the mouth, swish this around and suck it through the teeth for anywhere from 5 minutes gradually working up to 20 minutes. Voilà-la! Clean mouth, healthy teeth and gums!
Be sure to spit your used oil into a paper towel or napkin and NOT down your drain (which would create problems!).
