Girls on the Run celebrate at Fifth Third Ballpark

Nearly 1,900 girls participated in the 11th annual Kent County Girls on the Run 5k Celebration at Fifth Third Ballpark. Running beside the girls were 350 trained volunteer coaches, and nearly 900 community runners and running buddies. In total, 144 teams came out from 76 different schools and sites in Kent County. KCGOTR is the Kent County chapter of Girls on the Run® International, a nonprofit program designed to help pre-teen girls build confidence, strengthen their self image and develop healthy life skills. With the help of hundreds of volunteer team liaisons and coaches, we combine training for a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk with a series of engaging, fun lessons that inspire girls to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
The program culminates with a non-competitive 5K celebration run/walk ― a capstone event that helps participants realize the power they have to achieve their goals. GOTR Programs are available for girls in grades 3-5 (spring) and grades 6-8 (known as Girls on Track® and held in the fall).
