GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Opening your heart and your home to a foreign exchange student can be a wonderful experience for the entire family. Education, Travel and Culture helps match foreign exchange students with host families in West Michigan.
Volunteer host families provide international students with a window in which to view and understand American life and culture. Students are expected to act as a member of the family. They participate in the family’s daily activities and chores, bond with their host siblings, and join in family conversations.
Education, Travel and Culture identifies students that would be a good fit, matches them with a host family, and they are enrolled in that school district. The students are between the ages of 15 and 18, and can come from 46 different countries.
Education, Travel and Culture visits every potential host family home and helps them through the process. Host families can be single parent homes, have kids in the home, or be empty nesters. The only qualifications are that the host parent is 25 years old and pass a background check. If you’re interested in become a host family, contact Education, Travel and Culture at (616) 460-6673 or visit their website.
