Fun and adventure for campers this summer

The Ionia Intermediate School District in collaboration with State Farm is holding the fourth annual Michigan Youth Leadership Training (MIYLT).  The camp is a life-changing week of fun adventure, self-discovery, friendship, cultural exchange, leadership-building and service. This year’s camp will bring youth together from around the country for the opportunity to network, learn and make new friends. Throughout the week long experience, campers will have the opportunity to discover the wilderness, experience service, build new skills. Campers will also learn about self discovery, different cultures, and explore the issues of community involvement, poverty, race relations and ethics. The camp allows campers to utilize their own leadership skills and how they can implement them into their daily lives.

The Michigan Youth Leadership Training is a camp designed for youth 9th through 12th grade to become impactful leaders in their schools and communities.Through the MIYLT camp, kids will combine physical activities-such as canoeing and running-with intellectually stimulation seminars, cultural exchanges, and small group interactions. The ultimate goals at MIYLT are to motivate action for the common good, enhance awareness of social, political, and environmental issues, build capacity for taking effective action, and strengthen abilities to work cooperatively across races, ethics, genders, geographies and socioeconomic backgrounds. Camp takes place July 27, 2014-August 1, 2014. There will be a two day training for adult mentors toward the end of the week.
