Building a bottle greenhouse

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) Recycling  is the perfect way to make a footprint in saving our plant.  In late April,  Goodwill AmeriCorps will team up with 75 students from Godfey Lee School to build a water bottle greenhouse.

The Michigan Community Service Commission provided Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids AmeriCorps’ members a mini grants for the project in the amount of $400. United Way and Grand Rapids Community College collected recycled water bottles needed for the project. The greenhouse will be used to grow a salsa garden. Women clients from Dégagé Ministries will harvest and can the salsa. The proceeds will then go back to Dégagé. This is a great story in that all of the involved parties are non-profits and are working to better the lives of others. The students are learning about sustainability as they construct the greenhouse as well as homelessness.
