Rejuvenate yourself this Spring

Spring is ruled by the kapha dosha, whose qualities are heavy, cool, soft, dense, stable, solid and cloudy. To adjust for the season, consider the following practices:

• Wake with the sunrise! One of the best practices to minimize the heavy quality of the morning is to wake with the sun (around 5:30 am this time of year). You might be surprised how much more energy you have.

• Get moving. Your muscles are strongest between 6 and 10 am. Get outside for a brisk walk, practice Yoga or hit the gym.

• Eat lighter foods. In the winter months, we naturally gravitate to heavier foods for warmth. To lighten up, try foods that are light, dry and fresh.

• Got allergies? Try the neti pot to clear the nasal passages. Use ¼ tsp of sea salt with warm water, a half a pot per nostril. End your neti pot routine by massaging a little sesame oil or nasya oil into each nostril.

•Lastly get outside when you can. Sit in the sun and meditate or read a book. Take a stroll after meals, walk in nature if possible. Spring is a time of rejuvenation. Use this time of year as a new beginning and embrace change.
