Celebrate Easter with equestrians

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) If you are excited to meet the Easter bunny, hunt for eggs, get your face painted, and find a petting zoo, you might want to hop on over to the Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding in Rockford for a very special event.

The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding has been around for almost 25 years. It serves individuals with physical, mental, social, and emotional disabilities. Some of the benefits the program offers are helping increase core strength and upper body strength in children with disabilities. Right now, the center services about 120 to 160 individuals each week.

You can help support the Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding with some of its events coming up. Easter with the Equest Bunny is on Saturday, April 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can see horses dressed up as bunnies, a petting zoo with baby animals, a live band, face painting, crafts, breakfast, wagon rides, and an Easter egg hunt. Tickets are free, but donations are appreciated. Call (616) 866-3066 for tickets.

The largest fundraiser of the year for the Equest Center is the Horsin’ Around at the Derby event. It’s Saturday, May 3, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. It’s a Derby-themed event with a live simulcast of the race, dinner, silent and live auctions, and of course, the big hats! Reservations are $100 per person. You can get your ticket or more information online by clicking here.
