Here is a list of activities, performances, and games for your kids over Spring Break this April. Don’t let them sit around watching TV all of Spring Break, take them to the nearest museum, show, or park for some fun (educational) activities!

Camps/Classes

  1. Holland Area Arts Council Camps and Classes! Check out the many arts and crafts classes offered for the young ones this Spring Break. A few are listed below, but for more information visit hollandarts.org. Trash-n-Treasure, Pressed for Time, Ceramics and Clay Sculpture, Beginner’s Digital Photography. Prices vary from $45-$55.
  2. Kidz Fest 2014! head out to Kidz Fest 2014 at the Deltaplex Arena and ConferenceCenter! Starting on Tuesday, April 8 and running through Sunday, April 12, the entire building will be filled with exciting activities and entertainment for newly-walkers through teens (and those young-at-heart adults). $5 Admission / $12 All Day Wrist Band.
  3. Camp Couture Classes! Children will learn basic sewing machine operation, sewing terminology, and construction techniques while making one-of-a-kind designs. {Ages 8-15} “Prettified” Pillowcase: Tues. 4/8 1pm-3pm It’s in the Bag tote: Wed. 4/9 1pm-3pm Simply Stylin’ Skirt: Thurs. 4/10 1pm-3pm Classes are $29/student per class.   4. Camp Mud! At the Mud Room.These creative classes for kids explore the Potters Wheel, Clay Sculpture, and Glass Fusing. Class schedules, more details, and online registration can be found on the CampMud page. Classes are $29/student per class. Attend all 4 classes during Spring Break for $99 {save $17}. Classes available April 8-11.
  5. Camp Kroc! Campers will enjoy fun Camp Kroc activities, including swimming, rock wall climbing, games, arts & crafts projects and more. Two snacks per day and lunch are included. For ages 5-12. MEMBERS: $115 for the full week OR $26 per single day NON-MEMBERS: $140 for the full week OR $38 per single day. Snack included. Register by April 3 at the website.
  6. Gymco Day Camps! This Spring Break, Gymco is hosting Amazing Race Day Camps! Kids will ‘race around the world’ with games, crafts and LOTS of fun in the 16,000-square-foot gym. Flexible scheduling lets kids come for half-days or full-days, all week long! Ages 3+. Pricing varies. Check out Gymco.com for dates.
  7. Foxes and Coyotes in the City! – at Calvin College Eco-Preserve is an entertaining, educational event for kids five and older. April 5 from 10:30am-12pm. Play predator and prey games, and learn about the unique characteristics and adaptions of these major predators. Check out the website for more info.
  8. MVP Camps in GR! Kids out of school for break? We have mini camps for kids ages 6 to 11! Activities include swimming, sports, games, arts and crafts. Campers bring their own lunch. Daily rates available. Register at the Athletic Club service desk or online.
  9. Meijer Gardens Camps and Classes! Go online at http://www.meijergardens.org/learn/classes/ to explore the list of classes and day camps for your child to do over Spring Break, or anytime in April.
  10. Holland Community Aquatic Center Spalsh Zone! The HCAC will have splash zone times for the kids to come swim and play all day long. Also a special event The Fun Ship will take place on Saturday April 5th from 12pm-4pm with races, cannonball contests, and Alpine Challenge! The regular splash zones times are April 6th from 1-5pm, and April 7th-11th from 12:30-4:30pm and 5:30 to 8:30pm. The cost is $5.50 a person for all day.

 Museums

  1. Kalamazoo Valley Museum Spring Break Series! April 7th-11th. Come for free farm-themed crafts from 1-4 p.m. daily.  These programs highlight the Museum’s special exhibit, “Michigan’s Heritage Barns: An Artist’s Perspective,” where farm implements from the Museum’s own collection are also on display.  Families will find a variety of free hands-on crafts focused on different aspects of farm life each day.   2. Spring Fling at the Critter Barn! Come play with all the barnyard animals, even feed and pet some of the animals. They will be open April 4-5th , and April 7th-12th from 10am-7pm. Free admission. Bring your cameras and make some fun family memories! Check out the website for more info.
  3.  Forever Curious Children’s Museum! Come to Forever Curious Children’s Museum for extended hours April 7th through April 12th from 10 am to 4 pm in Fennville. Lots of hands-on activites and exhibits to learn from! Check out the website for more info.
  4. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum! Two floors of fun for kids and adults alike. Make bubbles, build, explore, and just have fun! Check out the website for all the events! There will also be a many performances this year from April 5th-12th,  Children under 1 year-Free Pals Members-Free Ages 1 and Above-$8.00 Ages 65 and Above-$7.00 Military families-$6.00.  
  5. Muskegon Museum of Art! This April and May the spring program palette offers a colorful array of programs and exhibitions for everyone. Visit http://www.muskegonartmuseum.org/event-calendar/categoriesdetailed for a list of dates and times for each event.
  6. John Ball Zoobilee! Spend Spring Break at the zoo watching animal demos, and doing crafts and other special activites. April 7th-11th. Hours 10am-4pm. Check out the website for more info.
  7. Butterflies are Blooming! Butterflies Are Blooming is MeijerGardens’ most popular annual exhibition and the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibit in the nation. March 1–April 30, visitors can escape the Michigan winter and mingle with more than 6,000 tropical butterflies flying free in the 15,000-square-foot Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. Free with paid admission or membership.
  8. Tuesday Night Lights! Every Tuesday night from 6pm-9pm come to MeijerGardens with a flashlight to explore the nightlife in the gardens.
  9. Dinosaurs Unearthed! at Grand RapidsPublicMuseum showcases feathered animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar, plus feathered fossils, a kid’s dig site, and more. The Museum is open until 8:00 pm April 7-11 and offers special Meal Deals.

 Performances/Shows

  1. Very Hungry Catepillar Storytime! Enjoy stories and crafts featuring “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and other familiar characters from the works of Eric Carle. For ages 6 and younger. Arts and Crafts. Free. March 22nd from 10:30am-11:30am. KentDistrictLibrary-GainesTownship branch.
  2. Grand Rapids Ballet Kids Show! The Spring Break For Kids! event starts out with pre-show activities for all ages. Here you can try on amazing dance costumes, get your very own temporary tattoos, participate in Gymco activities, browse through a selection of SchoolZone books and merchandise that are available for purchase and even try out a free ballet class. The pre-show activities are then followed by a fun and exciting 30-minute ballet performance called, “A Different Tune”, aimed towards children of all ages. April 8-10th from 11am-1:30pm. $5 admission per person.
  3. Grand Rapids Symphony! March 28th-29th the music of Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion is performed. March 30th Orchestra from Planet X is performed. April 5th Musical Connections is performed. Get your tickets at grsymphony.org or call the box office at 616-454-9451, Ext. 4.
  4. Flick’s Family Fun Fest! At Celebration Cinemas. Show times will vary depending on location and are available the Tuesday night before the showing. FREE for children 12 and under and only $4.00 for adults. Showing Frozen April 4-10 and The Nut Job April 11-17.Call for times.
  5. A Violent Universe Planetarium Show! At Grand RapidsPublicMuseum. Learn about our solar system and the forces that hold it together. Programs are $4 per person (visitors must also purchase general admission), and are free to Museum members. 11:00 am. Check here for times.
  6. Toddler Tails! At the Humane Society of West Michigan offers stories, activities, crafts and animal interactions for kids aged 2-4. April 8. For more info check out their website.
  7. Grand Rapids Civic Theatre! Watch Junie B Jones show April 18th-20th. Get tickets at grct.org or call (616)222-6650
  8. Kevin Kameraan Puppet Show– At the GRCM. Enjoy 3 performances from Kevin Kammeraad and his puppet friends! 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm!
  9. Susan Picking Performs– At the GRCM. Enjoy performances from singer, songwriter Susan Picking at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum! 11:00 am and 1:00 pm! Included with general admission, members free.
  10. No Oulet Kids Improv Show– At the GRCM. Laugh along with No Outlet Improv Troupe at the Grand Rapids Children’s Musuem! 2:00 pm. Included with general admission, members free.

 Games/Arts

  1. West Michigan Whitecaps Games! a Detroit Tigers affiliate, play six home games from April 8-13. The April 8 home opener features a fantastic fireworks display after the game, while kids can run bases, play catch and get autographs at the April 13 game. Get tickets here.
  2. Craig’s Cruisers Week! Get a wristband online at craigscruisers.com for $25 that is good April 4th and April 7th-11th. The wristband gets you ko-garts, laser tag, ropes, bumper cars, frog hopper, mini golf, kiddie karts, and the buffet.
  3. San Chez Cooking Classes! Get your kids excited about food and let them learn what they can do with it at the San Chez Bistro. There are two classes during Spring Break: April 3rd at 5:30pm and April 4th at 5:30pm. Both classes are $20 for each kid.  Kids 6 and older.  Families can dine in the Bistro for 20% off of their bill.  They can call San Chez (616) 774-8272 or visit our events page to purchase the tickets.
  4. Mom and Me Painting Time! At Inspirations of Art Studio. Come create a special memory with your child while your paint a masterpiece. Mom will draw the design on the scarf and then the child and mom will paint the scarf using watercolor technique. Please wear old clothes. $25. One child per adult.   5. Zumba for the Family! At the GRCM. Join Ali Brown of Heart in Motion Dance Studio for a Spring Break Zumba session Sunday, April 6, at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum! Included with general admission or membership.
  6. Taste, Touch, and Tour! Koetsiers Greenhouse. Taste plants, herbs and veggies you can grow, get your fingers dirty in a planting project that you can take home and tour the greenhouse to see what’s growing. It all happens 10-12, Monday, April 7-Friday, April 11. Free. Check out the greenhouse here.
  7. Lunch Time Open Skate–  At Griff’s Ice House. Lunch Open Skate admission is $3 all ages – $2 skate rental. Punch Cards available (10 Punches) $24 for the Lunch skate. Lunch Time Open Skates occur all year long. Monday-Friday: 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m.
