Why is Feeding America so important in West Michigan?

The need is great, right in our own community. Food insecurity affects 1 in 7 people in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Among children, more than 20% are at risk of hunger.

What is food insecurity?

Simply put, it’s a person’s uncertainty of being able to access nutritious food. Households may have to skip meals to stretch their budgets, or they may live in neighborhoods and rural communities where healthy food is scarce. Food insecurity affects every aspect of life, from education to family life to mental development. Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank provides food to more than 1,200 agencies in 40 Michigan counties.
