MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOTV) Age alone is not the only factor in deciding whether your child is ready for kindergarten. Children mature and grow at different rates. Their physical, social, and cognitive development may be the best indicators. So how do you know if your child is ready for kindergarten?
The superintendent of Muskegon Heights schools says getting your child ready for kindergarten has changed. Kindergarten used to be a half day and focus greatly on social skills. Now it’s a full day, with a huge focus on academic skills. You can help your child prepare by enrolling him or her in preschool or head start. Reading to your child at home, introducing him or her to concepts, teaching him or her how to say and spell their name, and reading and writing are all good skills children should have going in to kindergarden.
