COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOTV) It may still feel like winter, but spring has officially arrived and that means baseball is right around the corner! April 8 is opening day for the West Michigan Whitecaps. It’s been a busy winter for them after the fire on January 3, but they say they’re ready to go, and we got a sneak peek at what’s going on behind the scenes to get ready for their new season.
Among the changes you can expect to see are a new concession stand that’s larger and better than before. It will serve everything from basic hot dogs to new items like the venison burger and new ice cream items.
The suite level had to be taken down all the way to the studs after the fire. Now it’s being rebuilt, and the souvenir shop is going in a new location. It’s three times as large as the old souvenir shop and will have a ton of new items.
The seats along the third base line had to be replaced due to smoke damage.
Opening day for the West Michigan Whitecaps is April 8. They play the Wisconsin Timber at 6:35 p.m. But you’ll want to get their early. The first 1,000 fans will get a Fifth Third Ballpark retrospective lithograph, courtesy of Fifth Third Bank. There will also be face painters, balloon twisters, and some extra fun and games. After the game, there will be the first Family Fare Fireworks spectacular of the season.
