GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Whether it’s trying to prevent eating disorders or encouraging kids to accept themselves for who they are, good self-esteem is so important. One example of true beauty inside and out is Kayleigh Kenny. She had a great childhood in northern Michigan, but when she started going to school, kids started treating her differently. Kayleigh has a port wine stain, which is a vascular birth mark on the face caused by thickened blood vessels. Kayleigh began withdrawing from the bullying and only overcame it when her mother enrolled her in ballet, which helped boost her self-confidence and bring her out of her shell.
Kayleigh undergoes multiple surgeries a year for the port wine stain, which will continue to grow if untreated. She has had 53 surgeries so far. Now she is a cosmetologist at Design 1. Her message to kids is that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and it’s our differences that make each of us uniquely beautiful.
