This year at the 86th Annual Academy awards, the host, presenters, and special acts are sure to hold everyone’s attention while watching on the ABC television network WOTV 4, Sunday, March 2nd at 8pm.
The Academy first had to find the perfect host for the 2014 Oscars, and they thought who better than Oscars veteran, Ellen DeGeneres. “There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are,” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said when they first announced the talk-show star would host the Oscars for the third time.
Ellen DeGeneres not only focuses on hosting, but also helping out budding film-makers at this years Oscars, along with Channing Tatum. The duo helped producers Zadan and Meron last year, and this year, set up Team Oscar which invites “the next generation of filmmakers to vie for an opportunity to appear onstage during the live Oscar broadcast.” Winners get to hand out the Oscar statues to the winning actors on stage, and their journeys’ will be documented by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Along with an exciting host, the Oscars will have a movie heroes theme this year. “We wanted to unify the show with an entertaining and emotional theme,” said Zadan and Meron. The show will honor super heroes, real-life heroes, and animated heroes from today and the past. This theme, with DeGeneres’ comedy and surprise musical numbers will make this year’s Oscars as entertaining as ever.
For another emotional touch to the award show, the producers have also decided to celebrate the 75th birthday of “The Wizard of Oz.” This beloved film will be another great addition to an already packed Oscars broadcast.
The actors will not be the only ones vying for that elusive Oscar statuette; there is a long list of scores and songs the Academy had to work through to select the best ones this year. Voting members of the Music Branch of the Academy narrowed their choices down to the top 5 songs and scores, and then the winners will be picked on the March 2nd broadcast.
There will be several musical acts at this years award show to showcase the selected songs and scores, all of which are sure to be incredible. Idina Menzel will perform the hit song “Let it Go” from the animated film “Frozen.” Other performers include U2, Pharrell, and Karen O, all singing nominated songs from the years best motion pictures.
Of course, there will be many big name presenters at the show as well, one of which will be Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence is known for her funny, slightly awkward demeanor, which the audience loves. Other presenters have not been named yet, but the Academy will sure to include the best of the best, as always.
