Free fishing and winter family fun this weekend

More than a dozen winter sports featured over the weekend. Opening ceremony Friday at 7 p.m. at Cannonsburg Ski Resort. Includes parade of athletes, torch light parade, and fireworks. Free. See website for events schedule.

 

Michigan Free Fishing Weekend

Saturday, Feb. 15 – Sunday, Feb. 16

All fishing license fees are waived for Saturday and Sunday to allow anyone to enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes waters for all species of fish. All fishing regulations still apply.

 

“How People Make Things” exhibit, Kalamazoo Valley Museum

Traveling exhibit opens Saturday with free hands-on arts and crafts. Inspired by the factory tour segments from the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood television series. Free admission.

 

Winter Family Day, Frederik Meijer Gardens

Bundle up for outside play in the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden. Watch ice sculpting, create a seed mosaic snow sculpture, learn about animals in winter, snow painting, toy making, and winter-themed stories and seasonal songs. Lots of hot chocolate will keep you warm! Free with admission.

 

Taste of Soul Sunday, Grand Rapids Public Library

Celebrate African American history and culture. Sample African American art, music, literature, history and food. Free and open to the public. Activities for children and teens feature an Underground Railroad scavenger hunt and a craft activity.
