Go red to save women’s lives

Go Red

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) Heart disease is the number one killer of women, claiming more women’s lives than all forms of cancer combined. But ten years ago, women still thought of it as a man’s disease, and research for women lagged behind. So the American Heart Association launched Go Red for Women. It raised awareness of heart disease symptoms that are specific for women, and created women-specific guidelines for health care providers to diagnose and treat women more effectively. Today, better screenings and treatments are saving lives.

WOTV 4 Women is proud to partner with the American Heart Association of West Michigan on the Go Red for Women campaign.

Ottawa Hills High School is hosting a night of basketball to help prevent heart disease. The Go Red Basketball game is on Friday, February 7, 2014. The Varsity girls team plays at 6 p.m. The Varsity boys team plays at 7:30 p.m.
