Family embraces Chinese culture through daughters

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) When Kelly and Scott Merz decided they wanted to build a family, they knew that their only option was adoption. They looked into both domestic and international adoption, and ended up traveling to China to meet baby Abrial. Kelly says she formed an instant bond with the little girl, and they welcomed her into their home.

Years later, Kelly knew she wanted to bring Abrial’s Chinese heritage to life, so they decided to host a foreign exchange student from China. Like Abrial, Kelly says she knew Amy was meant for their home. They have embraced her as part of their family, sharing American holidays with her while she teaches them about China, from the language to the food.

Hear more of what the Merz family told Maranda about the heartwarming story of their two daughters.
