GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) There is a one-of-a-kind facility to help women deal with postpartum depression, and it’s right in West Michigan. Pine Rest Christian Services opened its Mother & Baby Program last year.
It’s meant for women who are struggling with postpartum depression or other perinatal mood disorder. What’s unique about the inpatient program is that women can bring their babies with them and receive treatment alongside their child. It’s the only program of its kind in the state of Michigan and only the second in the United States. The program combines psychological treatments with group therapy and educational classes. It also involves other members of the woman’s family to educate them on what their loved one is dealing with.
Pine Rest says 15% to 20% of women struggle with some form of perinatal mood disorder. They consulted women who’ve overcome the condition about what kind of treatment they would like and what they would want to see in the program.
If you think you are struggling with postpartum depression, Pine Rest suggests you talk to your family members. You can call Pine Rest and talk with a social worker about what kind of treatment might be right for you.
