The Ionia and Montcalm County ISD believes that putting kids first, and giving them a voice, will help to create innovative leaders for the future of the West Michigan community.

Through the IM KIDS Feeding Program, the Ionia and Montcalm County ISD is helping to provide healthy meals to kids in need. The initiative strives to end childhood hunger in Ionia and Montcalm Counties by providing meals to children living in food insecure homes. No child should go to bed hungry.

The concept of “putting kids first” helped launch a variety of youth lead programs in Ionia and Montcalm Counties. The Ionia County Youth Advisory Council is composed of students from five high schools in Ionia County who have formed partnerships with Lowell High School and special education students. The program helps students to make a difference in the community through service-learning projects and community outreach programs, which are entirely youth lead.

Michigan Youth Leadership Training camp is designed for 9th-12th grade youth to become leaders in their schools and communities. The Ionia students are working to create a positive school climate through teambuilding and leadership.

Drive to Survive is the Ionia County Youth Advisory Council’s teen driver safety initiative which helps to protect community youth through safe driving partnerships and events. These students work to promote awareness and advocacy towards saving a lives.

These are just some of the ways that the Ionia and Montcalm Intermediate School District Live Local, Give Local.
