It’s the new year and it’s time to get healthy!   Granola can really pack on the fat and calories if you’re not careful.  Healthy eats expert, Margaux Drake shares her favorite recipe for DIY granola your family will love.

Dry Ingredients:
4 C Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
1 C Coconut, shredded
1/2 C Almonds, raw and chopped
1/2 C Sunflower seeds, raw
1/2 C Pumpkin seeds, raw
1/4 C Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
1/4 C Flax Seeds
Wet Ingredients:
1 C Agave nectar
1/4 C Coconut oil
2 t Vanilla
1/2 t Cinnamon, ground
1/2 t Sea salt
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. In a large bowl combine the dry ingredients and mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the agave nectar, coconut oil, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until blended, then pour over the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly with your hands until everything is evenly coated. Put the mixture in a glass baking dish. Bake 2.5 – 3 hours, stirring every half hour, or until granola is evenly light brown in color and mostly dry. Let cool completely. You can mix in dried fruit, like raisons or goji berries at this point. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Any extra can be frozen for later use.
