Young women with an interest in engineering can get some hands-on experience and work with mentors at the 2014 Corporate Engineering Challenge at the Air Zoo in Portage.
Boys and girls are invited to the event on Saturday, January 11, 2014, to participate in activities that focus on engineering. Several stations at the Air Zoo will provide hands-on engineering and science activities. Girls from ages nine through 13 can partner up with female engineers, have lunch with them, and learn about what they do and why they chose engineering as a career. The girls can then work on an engineering project and compete in a challenge to win an Air Zoo gift card.
The activities are provided by local corporate sponsors, which all have a history of innovation and advancement in engineering. The event is made possible by a grant from the Exxon Mobil Foundation and the National Society of Women Engineers.
The event is 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 11. Girls should sign in for the competition at 11 a.m. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for the engineering challenge.
